About Us

The San Francisco Randonneurs were founded in 1990 in order to meet particpation requirements for the Paris Brest Paris Randonnée. Founding members, Darryl Skrabak and Henry Kingman have completed Paris Brest Paris with Henry completing the 1999 event in under 50 hours. Darryl is a San Francisco resident and has been a cycling enthusiast for several decades. His writings have appeared in Bicycling Magazine, and the magazines of the League of American Wheelmen/Bicyclists and American Youth Hostels. Henry is also an accomplished cyclist having participated in endurance rides in Australia, the USA and Europe. Henry is the author of a route guide of San Francisco.

Todd Teachout, our, 2003-2007,  San Francisco Regional Brevet Administrator (RBA), completed the 1999 San Francisco Brevet Series and Paris Brest Paris in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015. He raced extensively in the 1970s, has toured a little bit and has completed many recreational rides including the Tour of the California Alps (the Death Ride) and several California Triple Crown Double Century rides. His passion for minimally supported brevets caused him to propose and be authorized to promote the 2003 San Francisco Brevet Series.

The SF Randonneurs organized the San Francisco qualifying brevet series in 1990/91, 1999 and from 2003 until present. The SF Randonneurs also organized the 1000 mile California Millennium ride in 2000 (see http://www.milly.org). San Francisco Randonneurs membership includes over four hundred dedicated cyclists ranging in age from 17 to 65+ and from varied career paths.

To belong to the SF Randonneurs you need to be interested in long distance cycling. And, of course, you need to fill out and submit a membership application. We are a very low-key group. Specific rules and activities beyond PBP qualifying will be at the discretion of the membership. We do not support commercial interests and our membership roster is not shared with other organizations. There will be no membership fees in 2019.

Though there are no dues, existing members can renew their membership by submiting an updated membership form or by informing the RBA of your interest in continuing your membership.
